Pennsylvania State Police reportedly suspect that alcohol played a role in a Nov. 8 accident that claimed the life of a motorcyclist. According to police, drunk-driving charges are pending against one of the motorists involved in the incident.

The accident occurred at about 6 p.m. on Main Street in Boswell Borough. The motorcyclist, a 23-year-old man, was traveling on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle toward the intersection of Main Street and Hower Avenue. A Dodge Dakota traveling on Hower Avenue reportedly crossed into the motorcyclist’s path, resulting in a collision.

The force of the impact propelled the 23-year-old man from the seat of the motorcycle, authorities stated. He reportedly died as a result of the injuries he suffered in the accident.

Police determined that the 56-year-old driver of the Dakota was impaired at the time of the accident. Law enforcement officials detained him at the accident scene on suspicion of drunk driving. However, it was not immediately disclosed how law enforcement officials determined that the man was impaired nor what his blood alcohol content level was at the time of the collision. According to police, a blood test as well as a reconstruction of the crash were still underway during the aftermath of the event.

Motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable to injury and even death during traffic accidents. The chances of a motorcycle accident occurring increase when there are impaired drivers on the road, as drunk drivers are less likely to see motorcyclists traveling nearby. The families of deceased motorcyclists may be forced to scramble to cover expenses stemming from the sudden death of a loved one. A personal injury attorney may represent victims’ family’s interests in civil court after an alcohol-related accident.
